This game of hunting monsters in a cursed and ever-expanding city has a deceptively simple mechanic at its core: rolling a 4 or greater on a die counts as a success. With this powerful engine at its core, it can iterate almost endlessly to create mechanically distinct classes with asymmetrical ways of approaching the game. As a lover of asymmetric board games, this was immediately appealing to me and got me thinking right away about what kind of classes I could make for it.
These several years later I still have yet to actually finish designing those classes, but the core appeal of the game remains. Every aspiring TTRPG designer looking to make action-packed quick-paced games should check out Slayers (and the rest of Spencer's games tbh).
really love the system and the art of the printed book but I'm a bit confused about the interaction between scorn and shrewd on the blade, but that that might be because I have yet to reach any of the expert advances, is there something I'm missing?
For Tacticians, it says what the number of dice in your pool should be for your ready action/pool, but not the value of them. Based on the Weaken and Empower advances, I gather they are d6s by default?
Hey can the old version of this game be unrestricted? I got it as part of the Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality in 2020, but it seems it's now inaccessible.
Recently purchased the game, awesome! However, I have a doubt whether I have understood one rule correctly. Let's take the blade's weapon dice for example: when it becomes 2d6, for every 4+ do I get a hit? Is the result of the two dice added together? That is, if one dice rolls a 4 and the other rolls a 5, are there 2 hits for a total of 4 damage? Same thing for the arcanist's boon. Thanks to anyone who can resolve this doubt for me.
You do not add the dice together. A Blade rolling 2d6 has the opportunity to hit zero times, one time, or two times depending on the outcome of each individual die. So if they rolled a 3 and a 5, that's one hit (the 5). They would get to roll that one again to see if their combo continues, but not the 3 since it didn't hit.

Thank you so much for the kind words and review, they really mean a lot to me!
hi there, just wondering if any community copies would be released into the wild before Christmas
It’s a tough month for me without family and I’m after some good games to help cope with the holiday period. Kind regards

That's correct
